Preston L. Atwood, Ph.D. Headmaster
Preston Atwood has served as GCCA’s Headmaster since Summer 2019 and enjoys teaching electives (e.g., Biblical Hebrew) in the Rhetoric School. He earned a Ph.D. and M.A. in Classical & Ancient Near Eastern Studies (Hebrew Bible Major; Greek Minor) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Th.M. and M.Div. at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a B.A. in Humanities at Scarborough College. Dr. Atwood held numerous administrative appointments at UW-Madison (2014-2019), the National Association of Professors of Hebrew (2015-2017), and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (2010-2014) before his tenure at GCCA. Dr. Atwood has also been the recipient of many grants, fellowships, awards, and scholarships, affording him opportunities to present his scholarly research in many countries and states, including a summer-long research stay in Jerusalem, Israel. Dr. Atwood is married to Emily and has six kids, four of whom attend GCCA. He enjoys fishing, composing music, building rockets with his sons, drinking Mediterranean coffee, and taking his wife out to non-chain restaurants.
Ashley Keith Office & Communications Coordinator
A Granbury native, Ashley Keith holds a B.A. in Church History from Baylor University and serves as the Office & Communications Coordinator at GCCA. Married to her husband, Chris, since 2006, they are members at Grace Community Church and are blessed with four children. Her years as a church administrator, teacher in Christian schools, and director of Classical Conversations, solidified her love for serving God’s Kingdom through administrative support. Mrs. Keith loves music, writing, seeing God’s glory in nature, and sipping coffee with her husband on their front porch swing.
Jeanette Faulkner Logic & Rhetoric Teacher
Jeanette Faulkner teaches Logic and Rhetoric level Literature and Classical Composition. She also likes to teach 5th-6th grade classes now and then for fun. She has a B.A. in Liberal Arts majoring in Journalism and Radio-Television. In her B.C. days (Before Children), she was a newspaper investigative reporter and broadcast news producer. She was awarded the William Randolph Hearst Award for Excellence in Journalism for a series of stories she wrote on the plight of the poor in Tucson. Mrs. Faulkner has been married to Joe for thirty-nine years. They have four grown children and are expecting their seventh grand baby in December. This fall, her oldest granddaughter will enter kindergarten at The Oaks, the classical Christian school her son attended in Spokane, WA. For fun, she loves traveling, playing games, escapades, craft-making, and baking with her grandchildren.
Ben Booth Logic & Rhetoric Teacher
Returning for his second year at GCCA, Ben Booth is our Bible, History, and Logic teacher in the Logic and Rhetoric School. After pursuing his Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas, Mr. Booth achieved his Masters of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Mr. Booth is married to Sarah and they have one daughter, Wren Elise, who is a first grader at GCCA. They are members at Colleyville Presbyterian Church (P.C.A.) in Colleyville, Texas. In his free time, Ben loves to play the piano and read books by dead theologians.
Susan Corley Logic, Rhetoric & Grammar Teacher
Susan Corley currently teaches in the Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric Schools at GCCA. She teaches 6th grade math in the Grammar School, 7th and 8th grade Algebra 1 in the Logic School, and 9th grade Geometry in the Rhetoric School. She and her husband, Clay, met at Texas A&M where she earned a BBA in Finance. They have three girls who all attend GCCA, and their church home is Lakeside Baptist Church. For fun, Mrs. Corley enjoys exercising, reading, traveling, and spending time outside!
Audra Cain Logic & Rhetoric Teacher
Audra Cain is our Logic and Rhetoric School science teacher. She currently teaches 7th grade General Science, 8th grade Physical Science, and 9th grade Biology. Mrs. Cain holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Texas A&M University, as well as a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from UT Southwestern Medical School. She is married to Brett, and they have five children who all attend GCCA. Mrs. Cain is a member of Mambrino Baptist Church and loves to spend her spare time in inductive Bible study with other ladies and reading all she can.
Joshua Taylor 6th Grade Grammar Teacher
Joshua Taylor teaches 6th grade in the Grammar School at GCCA. In addition, he is the Latin teacher for the Logic and Rhetorical School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities with a concentration in the History of Ideas from Scarborough College, which is an extension of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He lives in Burleson, TX with his wife, Carrie, and two children, Mollie and Nora, who both attend GCCA. In his free time, he enjoys reading more books than he can keep up with, listening to far too many political podcasts, and attempting to increase his Wilks score.
Grace Anne Vrazo 5th Grade Grammar Teacher
Grace Anne Vrazo has been a Grammar School teacher at GCCA for three school years, teaching Kindergarten, 5th, and 6th grades. Growing up in the Houston area in a Christian, classically homeschooling family, she began teaching music in high school and has pursued teaching ever since. She attended Stephen F. Austin State University for piano performance. Married for four years to her husband Courage, they live in Fort Worth where they attend All Saints Presbyterian Church. Her passions include church music, beginning (and seldom finishing) craft projects, traveling to exciting places, and cooking.
Ber’et Thorpe 4th Grade Grammar Teacher
Berét Thorpe is the 4th Grade teacher in the Grammar School at GCCA. She graduated with her Associates of Science at the age of sixteen. At that time, Ms. Thorpe began working in local children’s ministries, inner-city programs, and private schools. She went on to get her Bachelors and Masters of Science in Early Childhood Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Ms. Thorpe is currently a member of a small gospel-centered church in Burleson, Texas, that she considers family. In her spare time, Ms. Thorpe enjoys studying church history, hermeneutics, biblical theology, and the like. When she isn’t reading, she loves writing poetry, hiking, and antiquing.
Kami Liles 3rd Grade Grammar Teacher
Kami Liles teaches 3rd grade in the Grammar School at GCCA. Mrs. Liles graduated from Texas Tech University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies and a Master’s Degree in Education. She and her husband, Jesse, have three sons: Cooper, Casen and Creed, all of whom attend GCCA. The Liles family recently moved to Granbury from Amarillo and are currently visiting churches to find their church home. For fun, they love to be outdoors on the lake or in the mountains.
Catherine Moore 2nd Grade Grammar Teacher
Catherine Moore graduated from Tarleton State University with a degree in Elementary Education and currently teaches second grade in the Grammar School at GCCA. She and her husband, Ryan, have four boys who all attend GCCA and go to church at Granbury Baptist Church. As a family, they enjoy skiing, swimming, and traveling. They've even traveled as far as Japan!
Faith Hurt 1st Grade Grammar Teacher
Faith Hurt is the 1st grade teacher in the Grammar School at GCCA. Graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from New Mexico State University in 2001, Mrs. Hurt initially taught within the public school system in the 3rd, 4th, and 7th grades. She and her husband, Justin, have been married since 1998 and have four children who all attend GCCA. Members of Grace Bible Church in Granbury, their family initially homeschooled and joined GCCA in 2015.
Aimee Hutchings Kindergarten Grammar Teacher
Aimee Hutchings graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, along with an Early Childhood Endorsement. She considers it a joy to serve as the Kindergarten teacher at GCCA. Previously, she taught for 5 years in a public school before taking a hiatus to become a stay-at-home mom. She’s been married to Jacob for twenty-one years, and they have two daughters who attend GCCA. As a family, they are very active at Lakeside Baptist Church. Mrs. Hutchings loves spending time with her family traveling and exploring national parks, but when given a bit of free time, you can often find her curled up with a good book.
Carrie Taylor Pre-K Grammar Teacher
Carrie Taylor is delighted to be teaching Pre-K at GCCA. Mrs. Taylor grew up in Burleson, TX and currently resides there with her husband, Josh, and their daughters, Mollie and Nora, both of whom attend GCCA. They are members of Graceview Baptist Church in Burleson, TX, where Mrs. Taylor serves on the worship team on Sunday mornings and helps teach 1st through 6th graders on Wednesday nights. In her free time, Mrs. Taylor enjoys going to concerts, attending musical theatre productions, cooking, watching movies, and spending time with her family.
Phyllis DeRoos Music Teacher
Phyllis DeRoos feels privileged to teach Music/Choir in grades Kindergarten through 9th at GCCA. She is beginning her fifth year at GCCA, and her thirty-fifth year of teaching. Mrs. DeRoos holds a Bachelor of Music in Education (with Secondary English) from Baylor University, a Master’s in Communication from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Post-Master’s Principal Certification from Tarleton State University. Although they have no children of their own, she and her wonderful husband, James, are both employed in education and are blessed to have mentored many students during their careers. In fact, Mrs. DeRoos is now teaching the second generation of some families at GCCA! Mrs. DeRoos is the church pianist for the Cresson and Waples United Methodist Churches, and in her spare time she loves to travel. She has visited twenty-seven of the fifty states, as well as four continents. On her adventures, she has zip-lined in Central America and driven solo on a motor scooter through the streets of Thailand and Cambodia.
Kassie Hooser Grammar School P.E. Teacher
This year will mark six years for Kassie Hooser as GCCA’s Grammar School P.E. teacher. She is married to Michael, and they have two children: Gregory, who is a junior in High School, and Kyndell, who started Pre-K at GCCA when she was three and is now a 5th grader. Mrs. Hooser owns multiple businesses, but the heartbeat of her career is ownership of Gym-Kat Sports Center, a family-run competitive and recreational gymnastics facility that has served the Granbury community for the past 40 years. She loves physical fitness, teaching life skills and sportsmanship to others, and believes there is nothing like a friendly competition! As a family, the Hoosers attend StoneWater Church (Tolar campus). Mrs. Hooser loves to travel and, as of May 2019, has traveled to all fifty states!
Sarah Booth Art Teacher
Sarah Booth teaches art at GCCA and is married to Benjamin Booth, who is one of GCCA’s Logic and Rhetoric School teachers. They have a six-year-old daughter, Wren, who has been a student at GCCA since 2017. Mrs. Booth was born in Albuquerque, NM, but spent most of her life in Granbury. The second-born of four children, Mrs. Booth graduated from a private Christian school in 2012. She also currently works part-time at Painting with a Twist. She and her family are members of Colleyville Presbyterian Church where her husband is a pastoral intern. At home she loves reading, drawing, being outdoors, watching movies, and spending time with her family.
